ISM Band Direction-Finding Antenna with Improved Front-to-Back Ratio

In this study, a direction-finding array antenna with an improved front-to-back ratio was developed by inserting meander slots into the ground plane of electrically small antenna. The proposed slot structure improves capabilities while maintaining compact overall size is 58 mm×58 mm×40 mm, each element measuring 40 mm×22 mm×1.6 mm. consists eight elements attached to vertical column, forming octagonal that affords omnidirectional detection. measured S11 bandwidth (≤−10 dB) between 2.37 and 2.48 GHz. At 2.44 GHz, maximum gain −2.71 dBi, 3-dB beamwidth occurs at elevation angle 74.2° azimuth 84.4°, 8.89 dB.

Three types of corrugation configurations with different combinations of slit length are investigated. The results revealed that the improvement in F/B ratio is directly related to the arrangement in corrugation configurations.
